The last week has me thinking about my fitness & pole journey over the last year. I feel so fortunate that I was able to to pole and teach throughout my whole pregnancy & that I have been able to come back so quickly. It has absolutely amazed me what my body has been able to accomplish.
I started the year teaching 9 regular classes week; it still amazes me that I made it to every single class with how nauseated I was through my first trimester. Slowly I was having to drop classes, adjust my workouts & focus on doing things I knew I could do safely (which eventually was mostly tilt-a-whirls and dance steps around the pole). But continuing to dance & move helped me to stay fit both physically & mentally throughout my pregnancy.
This past week, at 3 months postpartum, I had the opportunity to teach 7 classes, including polefit & 303, classes I haven't taught since February and March of this year. Teaching these classes again really hit home how much I love teaching & how it is such a huge part of my life. Getting back into pole & teaching again has really brought me back to working on the basics. It has also helped me rethink some of my cueing & my understanding of the struggles some students go through, because after almost 10 years since my first classes I'm feeling like a beginner in many areas myself. I've definitely lost strength in my upper body and low abs, talking upside down & my polefit warmups are definitely harder than I remember but through this whole journey I have gained an incredible amount of muscle awareness from learning how to engage my muscles in pregnancy (plus one stinking cute small human). And hopefully this will be knowledge that I will be able to use to help out others. I'm now really focusing on conditioning & gaining my strength back & figuring out fun ways to incorporate Lochlan in this journey. I'm looking forward to having more opportunities to teach again & hopefully be back on the schedule regularly in the new year. I can't wait to see what comes next for me on this pole and fitness journey!
